On Monday, January 13, 2026, a Snow Squall Watch for Goderich, Ontario, was lifted by the evening (around 7:00 p.m. EST) after intense lake-effect weather bands shifted north, ending a day that began with school bus cancellations and slick road conditions.

The Snow Squall Watch from Environment Canada was issued around 5:30 a.m. EST and warned residents of the potential for near-zero visibility at times under intense squall bands. Huron-Perth Student Transportation Services (HPSTS) announced that all area school buses were cancelled for the day because overnight snowfall and slippery rural roads made travel unsafe.

Reporters at CKNX News Today noted that while some parts of the region could see up to 30 centimetres of snow, Goderich received only a much lighter dusting. Town of Goderich Public Works crews worked through the morning to clear approximately 2 to 5 centimetres of snow from municipal streets.

West Region OPP monitored Highway 21 and Highway 8 throughout the day and reported rapidly changing visibility in the area. Further regional updates were provided by Exeter Today as the cold, arctic air moved through and the heaviest squalls shifted toward Bruce and Grey counties.

Environment Canada advised drivers: if visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. The lifted watch underscored how quickly lake-effect conditions can change for residents of the Snow Belt.
