Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, is inviting residents to grab their shovels for a town-wide Snow Creation Contest running from February 3 to February 11, 2026. This new event is part of the community’s winter celebrations and encourages everyone to get outside and be creative with the snow in their yards or in designated community spaces.

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor’s Department of Community Services (Parks & Recreation) organized the competition as a lead-up to the main Winterlude festival. Families, school groups, and local clubs can participate by building sculptures or creative displays out of snow and ice on their own property (front yards) or in approved community locations.

To join the contest, participants should register their entry with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor Department of Community Services (Parks & Recreation). Registration is typically completed via an online form or by submitting a photo of the finished sculpture to the Community Services office; check the town events page for the specific registration link and any submission instructions.

The town rebranded its winter event as Winterlude for 2026 to align with broader seasonal celebrations. This year’s contest is also supported by consistent snow accumulation in central Newfoundland in late January 2026, which has provided suitable material for building creations.

Judging for the best snow creations is expected to take place on February 12, the same day Winterlude begins. Those looking for more information or the registration link can check the Grand Falls-Windsor Facebook page or call Town Hall at 709-489-0450.
