The Town of Grand Valley council met on January 27, 2026, to review early plans for the 2026 budget and how it might affect local taxes. Leaders examined how the community in Grand Valley, Ontario, will pay for essential services such as water, roads and fire protection as the area continues to grow.
Mayor Steve Soloman and council members reviewed costs for everyday needs, including projected increases in policing and winter road maintenance, and discussed community programs and recreation. A major part of the discussion focused on the high cost of expanding water and wastewater systems to support new housing.
The town is working to balance these costs while trying to keep property taxes at a fair level for long-term residents. The town’s asset-management work — including the 2024 Asset Management Plan for non-core assets (buildings, vehicles and equipment) — shows significant capital needs; council deliberations also flagged the need to invest in core services (roads, water and fire) to keep them in good shape over the coming decade.
No formal votes were taken during the meeting, which was broadcast on the council live stream for public viewing. The draft budget is expected to be updated and presented at a public open house in February before council holds a final vote.
