On Friday, February 20, 2026, residents of Grand Valley and other communities in Dufferin County can attend a themed hockey game to support mental health awareness for young athletes. CMHA Peel Dufferin is partnering with the Steelheads — who play out of the CAA Centre in Brampton — for an event that will help residents learn about suicide prevention and available local supports.
The game is part of the Talk Today program, launched in 2014 to give hockey players, coaches and team staff tools for mental health and suicide prevention, including safeTALK training. During the event there will be educational booths on the concourse and on-ice ceremonies designed to encourage fans to speak up if they are struggling and to help end the stigma around seeking help.
For residents in rural communities like Grand Valley, the event is a way to connect with regional resources — including CMHA Peel Dufferin’s crisis supports and youth counselling — and will feature a CMHA fundraising component. A portion of proceeds from the event will support local CMHA Peel Dufferin programs and services that serve Dufferin County.
The puck drops at 7:00 p.m., and single-game tickets are available for those who want to support the cause. The Talk Today partnership is long-standing: since its launch in 2014 the program has trained nearly 8,600 individuals (about 7,600 athletes) in mental health and suicide-awareness programming, helping create supports for players on and off the ice.
