The Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a structure fire near Pinnacle Avenue and Pinnacle Cove in Grande Prairie, Alberta, during the early morning hours of March 21, 2026. Fire crews successfully contained the blaze with no reported injuries. This incident follows previous fires in the Pinnacle residential area in October 2021 and April 2022, which firefighters also managed to stop without any injuries to residents.
The department operates three fire stations around the clock and employs 68 fire suppression personnel to protect the community. Following the fire, officials are reminding everyone to check their smoke alarms and heating systems as a safety precaution. According to the County of Grande Prairie, nearly three out of five fire deaths happen in homes where smoke alarms are not working or are missing entirely.
Under fire prevention and safety rules, the Alberta Fire Code requires at least one smoke alarm on every level of a home. Residents are encouraged to test these alarms every month and replace them every 10 years, even if they are hard-wired into the home. Additional alarms are also recommended for all sleeping areas to provide better protection for families.
Official fire safety checklists suggest that homeowners have their furnaces professionally cleaned and inspected every year. Chimneys should be cleaned twice a year to prevent dangerous build-up that could start a fire. Taking these steps is especially important in late March when winter heating systems are still used frequently during cold mornings.
