The City of Grande Prairie announced five local leaders as the winners of the 2026 Women of Influence Awards on March 5, 2026, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. These awards recognize women who have made significant contributions to the community’s culture, economy, and quality of life.
The program was started in 2018 to honour local women and celebrate International Women’s Day. This year’s awards focused on a theme about how investing time and leadership into others helps strengthen the entire community.
Grace Larson received the Next Generation Award for her work with youth and the local economy. Dr. Vanessa Sheane was given the Game Changer Award for her leadership role at Northwestern Polytechnic.
Rochelle Schamehorn, who manages the Mission Thrift Store, won the Workplace Leadership Award. Lois Duke, the president of the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, took home the Community Leadership Award for her work advocating for Indigenous rights.
The Lifetime Impact Award was given to entrepreneur Angie Peters for her years of service to the community. This year’s awards were sponsored by Peace Diagnostic Imaging and highlighted individuals who serve as role models for local residents.
