The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in Alberta is continuing to showcase regional talent through its public display space while the main building undergoes major improvements. The gallery closed its doors on January 4, 2026, for renovations that are expected to last until October 2026.
The gallery recently finished accepting proposals for its TREX WALL, an 18-foot display area located outside the gallery within the Montrose Cultural Centre. This initiative allows artists from across the province to share their work with the community in a high-traffic area while the main facility is being updated to ensure it lasts for the next 50 years.
Local law firm KMSC Law sponsors the program, which helps keep local arts active during the construction period. Artists chosen to display their work on the wall receive professional fees for their exhibitions to ensure they are fairly compensated for their creative work.
The display space is designed to hold various types of projects, including two-dimensional pieces, sculptures, and mixed-media installations. This project ensures that residents can still enjoy local art even while the gallery exhibition rooms remain closed for the next several months.
