The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is launching a new program this March 2026 that lets local businesses and residents display professional artwork in their own spaces. This initiative, called OurCollection, comes as the gallery’s main location in the Montrose Cultural Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta, remains closed for major renovations until October 2026.
The program features 58 different pieces from the gallery’s permanent collection that are ready to be moved into local offices or homes. Participants can choose between three different levels of sponsorship to host the art for a six-month period. These levels include a one-piece option for $500, a two-piece option for $1,000, and a three-piece option for $1,500.
Jessica Groome, the executive director and chief curator for the gallery, is leading the project to keep local art visible while the building is under construction. The money raised from the rental fees will go toward the costs of protecting the art and funding future community programs. By moving the art into public spaces, the gallery aims to keep its collection active and strengthen its ties with the community.
The gallery first closed its doors to the public on January 5, 2026, to allow for the extensive building updates. While the main building is closed, the gallery is also working with the local museum and continuing its travelling exhibitions to stay connected with residents. The OurCollection program is a new way for the gallery to share its culture with the region until the facility reopens later this year.
