A moose was safely captured and relocated on February 13, 2026, after wandering through the Avondale neighbourhood in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Local residents reported the animal in the residential area, which is adjacent to the wildlife corridors of Muskoseepi Park.

The relocation was handled by Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services. While sightings are common in the city’s trail systems, authorities acted quickly to move the animal as it had moved deep into the residential core near local homes and gardens.

The City of Grande Prairie reminds residents that all dogs must be kept on a leash to prevent dangerous encounters with wildlife. Sightings are more frequent in the Avondale area during the winter because deep snow often pushes animals out of the woods and into residential areas in search of food.

Anyone who sees a moose within the city should report it to the Alberta Fish and Wildlife office at 310-0000 (ask for the Grande Prairie office). For sightings that occur outside of regular business hours, residents are asked to call the Report a Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800.
