Paving work at the Resources Road and 68 Avenue intersection in Grande Prairie is expected to cause traffic delays through approximately August 10. The intersection remains open during construction, but drivers should prepare for short-term stops, temporary detours, and lane closures.
The paving is part of a larger road rehabilitation project on Resources Road between 68 Avenue and 88 Avenue that began July 25. According to the City of Grande Prairie, the work includes asphalt milling and paving, storm system replacements, concrete spot repairs, and new line markings. The project is expected to continue until mid-September, weather permitting.
Drivers should be aware that delays may be significantly longer when trains pass through the nearby 68 Avenue rail crossing. Lane restrictions during construction reduce road capacity, so traffic can back up more quickly and take longer to clear after a train.
Road rehabilitation has also started in the Patterson Place area, with crews working on Poplar Drive, Patterson Drive, and Prairie Road. That work includes asphalt milling, storm sewer repairs, overlay paving, and line markings.
The city has allocated $28.5 million to roads and infrastructure in its 2026 budget as part of a broader capital plan. Mayor Jackie Clayton said construction projects help keep Grande Prairie moving, support growth, and strengthen infrastructure residents rely on every day.
