Grande Prairie residents can look forward to a full day of free family activities on Canada Day, July 1, 2026, with the City planning a parade, carnival rides, free swimming, and fireworks at a new location. The celebration, hosted by the City of Grande Prairie, runs from early morning until late night, centred at Muskoseepi Park and downtown.
The parade starts at 2 p.m. on 108 Avenue near Hillside School, moving south on 96th Street and turning right onto 100 Avenue before ending at the Northwestern Polytechnic parking lot. Several roads will be closed to accommodate the event. Westbound 100 Avenue between 98th and 102nd Streets will close for setup starting around 6 a.m., with rolling road closures along the full parade route beginning at approximately 1:50 p.m., including 100 Avenue between 93rd and 106th Streets from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Transit routes 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 will be unavailable from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., so riders should plan ahead.
Free all-day transit is available to help people get around without driving. Regular Sunday service runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., followed by extended Late Night On-Demand and accessible service from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Trips can be booked until 12:30 a.m. through the GP My Ride app or by calling dispatch at 780-830-RIDE (7433).
Muskoseepi Park activities run from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., featuring live entertainment at the Amphitheatre, carnival rides sponsored by Paramount Resources Ltd., a Kids Zone with face painting sponsored by ATS Traffic, food trucks, and free cookies from Cenovus Energy while supplies last. Beer gardens will also be on site. Free drop-in swimming at the Aquatera Outdoor Pool is open from noon to 5 p.m.
For those needing extra support, Accessibility Passes are back to help individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities during carnival ride lineups, supported by Goodwill Industries.
The biggest change this year is the fireworks display, which moves from the Muskoseepi Park reservoir to Legion Field at 11313 105 Street. Fireworks launch at 11:30 p.m., and the extended transit service ensures people can get home safely afterward.
The full entertainment lineup will be announced on 96.3 Sun FM at 9:45 a.m. on June 23. All Canada Day activities are free and open to everyone.
