Grande Prairie is undertaking sidewalk repair work at four locations, which will mean lane and sidewalk closures for the next two weeks. The work runs from July 7 to July 22, 2026, with the biggest impacts expected along 96 Avenue and 109 Avenue.
The four work zones include: 96 Avenue between 92 Street and 93 Street; 92B Street between 95 Avenue and 96 Avenue; the 100 Street service road between 108 Avenue and 109 Avenue; and 109 Avenue from 99 Street to 100 Street.
While crews are working, sidewalks and some traffic lanes will be closed. The City of Grande Prairie says signs will go up ahead of time where possible, especially to warn pedestrians who use mobility aids so they can plan alternate routes.
This work is part of the city’s Annual Sidewalk Improvement Program, which aims to replace old sidewalks and bring them up to current accessibility standards. The 2026 budget included $500,000 for sidewalk and pathway repairs, out of a $28.5 million roads and infrastructure investment.
Mayor Jackie Clayton has said construction season is one of the most visible ways residents see long-term investment. “These projects help keep Grande Prairie moving, support future growth, and strengthen the infrastructure our community depends on every day,” she said in a statement about the broader infrastructure spending.
The city’s 2026-2030 Capital Plan focuses on renewing existing infrastructure while planning for future needs, including transportation, drainage, and recreation spaces. Residents who have questions or concerns can contact AccessGP at 311 or 780-538-0300.
