The Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association is inviting visitors and residents alike to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and events as part of its spring travel campaign. The region is positioning itself as a destination for those looking to get outside as the weather warms, highlighting local options for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying the city’s trail system.
Grande Prairie offers over 100 kilometres of asphalt, gravel, and natural trails available for year-round exploration. Those looking to head further afield can visit regional outdoor destinations, including Saskatoon Island Provincial Park, which is known for birdwatching, as well as Kleskun Hills, Dunvegan Provincial Park, and Willmore Wilderness Park.
The area is also hosting a variety of indoor cultural and sporting events this April. Entertainment options include a jazz band concert at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre on April 25, along with various performances at local venues like the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre. Community events this month include the 2nd Annual Spring and Homesteading Showcase, the Craft and Critter Sale, the North Peace Critter and Craft Sale, and an International Earth Day celebration.
Sports fans have also had opportunities to engage with the local scene, with the Bonnetts Energy Centre hosting playoff games for the Grande Prairie Storm throughout early April. Additionally, the Grande Prairie Curling Centre recently welcomed athletes from across the country for the 2026 Canadian Masters Curling Championships, which featured 22 men’s and women’s teams.
The tourism association, a non-profit organization working in conjunction with Travel Alberta, continues to market these experiences to help boost regional travel. Ken Loudon has served as the executive director of the tourism group since March 2026.
