Residents in Grande Prairie, Alberta, can ride the bus for free all day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, as part of the city’s local Earth Day celebrations. The initiative, led by Grande Prairie Transit, is designed to encourage residents to choose public transportation to reduce carbon emissions and support environmental conservation.
This is the second consecutive year that the city has provided free transit access to mark the global event. The program applies to all transit routes throughout the city, including its nine fixed routes and on-demand services in 15 neighbourhoods. Regular transit schedules will be in effect during the day, and residents can use the city’s bus tracker and trip planner tools to organize their travel.
The free transit day coincides with an Earth Day community event being held at The Bowes at Bonnetts Energy Centre, located at 10017 99 Avenue. The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. and offers hands-on activities, environmental education opportunities, and displays of electric vehicles, including one of the city’s electric buses.
Grande Prairie currently operates a fleet of approximately 21 buses, which includes five electric models introduced since 2019. The city’s commitment to environmental initiatives also includes its official designation as a Bee City, a status awarded in 2020.
