The Zulu Challenge brings its obstacle course race back to South Bear Creek Park in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on May 9, 2026. This outdoor event features a 5-kilometre course with about 24 different obstacles designed for residents to complete in teams.
Participants can sign up for the main race where team members are physically tethered together to encourage cooperation. The event also includes the Little Zulus race for children between ages 4 and 13, as well as a K9 challenge for people who want to run with their dogs. According to registration details, dogs must be on a hands-free leash and harness to participate.
This race series was first started in Grande Prairie in 2014 by local resident Tosh Mugambi before it grew into a national event. Mugambi created the race to offer a community-focused version of a fitness challenge that focuses on teamwork instead of speed.
People from across the region are expected to visit the city for the competition, which helps support local shops and hotels. Registration is currently open for individuals and teams looking to take part in the spring event.
