The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is celebrating a significant professional achievement for one of its longtime leaders. David Michalko, the division’s Director of Facilities, has been honoured with a Life Membership from the Alberta Educational Facilities Administrators Association (AEFAA).
The recognition was announced by the association, which highlighted Michalko’s two decades of dedication to the organization. According to the association’s bylaws, this award is reserved for individuals who have served as active members for at least ten years and have made distinguished contributions to the field of school facility management. Michalko’s 20-year membership and his past service as association president from 2011 to 2012 helped earn him the designation.
Superintendent Shawn O’Shea commended Michalko for his work maintaining safe learning environments for the division’s 6,100 students across 34 schools. O’Shea noted that Michalko’s knowledge and experience is unmatched. This experience was notably put to the test in 2021, when a fire at Whispering Ridge Community School damaged several classrooms; Michalko led the recovery efforts to restore the facility for students and staff.
Michalko’s career reflects a long-term commitment to the maintenance of Alberta school infrastructure.
