Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Kemp Road in Grimsby, Ontario, on March 22, 2026, where a person was trapped inside their vehicle. The crash occurred between Thirty Road and Walker Road, requiring an immediate rescue operation to free the individual from the wreckage.
The Grimsby Fire Department arrived at the scene to help with the rescue. The department has served the local community since 1879 and uses a mix of nine full-time staff and 56 volunteer or part-time firefighters to handle emergencies.
While the cause of the crash is being investigated by the Niagara Regional Police Service, residents have previously shared concerns about safety on winding escarpment roads. Large trucks weighing more than 15,000 kg are already banned from using nearby Thirty Road and Mountainview Road because of the steep and dangerous turns.
This incident follows a similar serious rollover in March 2025 on Woolverton Road that resulted in four people being sent to the hospital. According to the Town of Lincoln, regional planners are currently looking into a new escarpment crossing to improve road safety and move heavy traffic away from residential neighbourhoods.
The emergency response comes at a time when Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics are threatening to go on strike over equal pay. A recent survey showed that 57 per cent of local paramedics have considered leaving the region for better-paying jobs elsewhere, which could impact how quickly medical teams can reach accident scenes.
