The Niagara Regional Police Service arrested three people and recovered a stolen trailer in Grimsby, Ontario, after using a GPS tracking device to find the property on March 19, 2026. The investigation began when a box trailer was taken from a home on South Grimsby Road in the early morning hours.
Police say the theft happened in two parts, starting on March 18 when a man removed a security lock from the trailer. Three suspects then returned the next day at about 4:50 AM to take the trailer, but a hidden GPS device led officers directly to a property on Brand Road.
Detectives used a search warrant to enter the property, where they found the stolen trailer and arrested three people. Christopher McLaughlin, 46, of West Lincoln, along with Samantha Douglas, 34, and Frank Shadbolt, 31, both from Grimsby, are each charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
McLaughlin and Douglas were released and are expected to appear in court on May 1, 2026. Shadbolt remained in custody for a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
