The Town of Grimsby, Ontario, in coordination with Niagara Region, began a major snow removal operation on Main Street early in the morning on February 4, 2026. Crews are working to clear large snow banks and widen the road to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians during the morning rush. The work is concentrated on the downtown stretch from the QEW/Christie Street interchange to Optimist Fields.

The operation started at 4:00 a.m. and is expected to finish by 7:00 a.m. today. Front-end loaders and dump trucks are being used to haul snow away from the curb rather than just pushing it to the side. This effort helps restore full access to parking spots and ensures sidewalks are clear for local businesses to open on time.

According to the Town of Grimsby’s winter maintenance notice, “Any vehicle parked or standing in such a manner as to interfere with municipal snow clearing operations may be ticketed or towed away.” Residents and shop owners are being asked to move their cars; property owners are also reminded they are responsible for clearing sidewalks that branch onto private property. Vehicles that are towed “may be moved or taken, and placed or stored in a suitable place, and all costs and charges for removing, care and storage thereof, if any, are a lien upon the vehicle.” (Town of Grimsby Winter Maintenance Notice)

The clearing comes as Environment Canada forecasts for the Grimsby/Vineland area on Feb. 4, 2026 indicated a chance of morning snow showers and a mixed wintry precipitation that could turn existing snow into hazardous slush. By removing the snow banks now, the town and region hope to prevent local flooding and keep the downtown area accessible for shoppers and commuters throughout the day.
