All schools in Grimsby, Ontario, are closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, because of heavy snow and high winds. The board-wide closure includes the cancellation of student transportation and a one-day postponement of secondary final exams.

The District School Board of Niagara announced the closure on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, warning that blowing and falling snow and high winds would create hazardous travel conditions across the region. The board said revised secondary exam scheduling will push exams and final culminating activities (FCAs) originally set for Monday to Tuesday (and Tuesday exams to Wednesday).

Niagara Student Transportation Services (NSTS) cancelled all buses for Jan. 26, 2026, saying the forecast and current conditions made it difficult for buses to operate safely. NSTS and DSBN cited concerns about visibility, drifting and routes that cross the Niagara Escarpment as factors in the cancellation.

For elementary students at local schools (for example, Central French Immersion Public School, Lakeview Public School, Park Public School and Smith Public School), the DSBN said learning options will be available online. Families should check their child’s school communications for details; the board has previously emphasized that such optional learning on inclement-weather days is not mandatory and expectations may vary by school.

Families should consult their school’s usual communication channels and the DSBN SafeArrival guidance page for instructions on absence reporting and next updates. The DSBN and NSTS said they will continue to monitor conditions and provide further information regarding school and transportation status for Tuesday morning.
