According to a Guelph Police Service media release, officers arrested a 39-year-old Guelph man after charges were laid following an assault on his mother at a home near Edinburgh Road North and London Road West.

The man faces six charges: attempted murder; assault with a weapon; two counts of assault causing bodily harm; assault; and breaching a probation order. Police did not release his name, consistent with Guelph Police practice in family-dispute/domestic-violence cases to avoid identifying victims.

The incident happened on Dec. 21 when a family dispute turned violent. The suspect allegedly assaulted and strangled his mother, a woman in her 60s, who was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

The accused remains in custody and is due to appear in court Dec. 30, 2025. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Guelph Police Service.
