The Upper Grand District School Board is closing all schools and offices across its jurisdiction — including Guelph, Wellington County and Dufferin County — on Monday, January 26, 2026. This decision was made because a major winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions to the region.

All school buses and taxis have been cancelled for the day by STWDSTS (Student Transportation Services of Wellington‑Dufferin). While buildings are closed to both students and staff, students are to shift to remote learning where possible. Teachers will post activities and learning tasks to Google Classroom, where available.

Families can find the latest updates on the board website, the UGConnect app, or by checking for phone notifications. This closure affects about 35,000 students and 77 schools across the UGDSB region.

Daily meal programs organized by the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington (Keep Kids Fed at School) are typically suspended when schools are closed; parents should contact the foundation or the board for confirmation about meal supports today. The UGDSB’s inclement weather policy also states that consideration will be given to providing or assigning work and/or devices ahead of time to support students without internet access, where possible.
