Residents in Haines Junction, Yukon, should prepare for a week of freezing weather as Environment Canada predicts a significant drop in temperatures starting March 8, 2026. This shift follows a period of changing weather and marks a return to harsher winter conditions for the community.
Throughout the week, daytime highs are expected to stay between -6°C and -15°C. Overnight temperatures will plummet even further, with the coldest point expected on Wednesday night when the thermometer is forecast to reach -29°C.
The weather agency has also issued a warning about the risk of frostbite due to extreme wind chill values. On Monday morning, the wind chill is expected to hit -33, making it dangerous for people to be outside without proper protection.
These temperatures are much lower than what is typical for early March in the region. Usually, the area sees daytime highs around -2°C and overnight lows near -16°C during this time of year.
