Drivers in Haines Junction can expect delays on Willow Acres Loop this week as the Village of Haines Junction carries out road work in the area. A public notice posted June 28, 2026 says the work will take place throughout the week of June 28, and residents are being asked to plan alternate routes if needed.
The work follows another notice from June 23 about road works on Willow Acres and Wintergreen that started June 24, so the area is seeing ongoing activity. The village hasn’t said exactly what kind of work is happening on Willow Acres Loop, but the timing suggests it’s part of a bigger push to upgrade infrastructure in the growing neighbourhood.
Willow Acres is a focus for development right now. The Dhäl Gähy Subdivision project is adding more than 40 new residential lots behind Spruce Street, and back in September 2025, the federal and territorial governments announced a $10 million investment for water, sewer, and road upgrades in Haines Junction, along with Faro and Watson Lake. That package includes over four kilometres of road and alley reconstruction.
Haines Junction has been one of the fastest-growing communities in Yukon, with the 2025 population reaching 1,069, an 18.5 per cent jump. This week’s road work might cause some short-term headaches, but it’s part of the village’s effort to keep up with that growth.
