Haines Junction residents have until June 15, 2026, to nominate neighbours and volunteers who make the community a better place through the Community Recognition Program. The Village of Haines Junction Council posted the call for nominations on June 2, 2026.
The program honours people for outstanding volunteerism, long service, projects, and major achievements. Milestone birthdays and wedding anniversaries can also be celebrated. Nominations can fall under areas like sport, music, arts, culture, education, citizenship, environment, and social services.
Last year’s recipients included 11 individuals recognized for their volunteer work with groups such as the Dakwakada Dancers, St. Elias Seniors and Elders Society, St. Elias Ski Club, Haines Junction Soccer Club, and the Glacier Nights Festival. Three milestone celebrations were also honoured.
The program operates under Policy #43-25, and nomination forms can be downloaded from the village website. The current council, led by Mayor Diane Strand, includes councillors Debbie Busche, Sydney Mackinnon, Bruce Sundbo, and Rob Moore. All were elected to serve until October 2028.
The Community Recognition Program reflects the strong volunteer spirit in Haines Junction, located within the traditional territory of Champagne and Aishihik First Nations. Residents are encouraged to visit the village website to submit their nominations before the fast-approaching deadline.
