For Haines Junction, a community of about 1,000 people west of Whitehorse, the local jobs do not require moving to the capital. A permanent Child Protection Social Worker role, posted under Family and Children’s Services, lists Haines Junction among several small Yukon communities where the work can be based. The job pays between $94,501 and $109,661 a year and the government is hiring six people across the territory; applications close September 8, 2026.
Another option is the Administrative Assistant Registry Intake, which pays $59,907 to $82,549 annually and builds a pool of pre-screened candidates who get first look at future administrative openings. That posting also includes Haines Junction as a possible work location and closes August 18, 2026.
The two newest postings are in healthcare. The Deputy Chief role is a permanent full-time job with Yukon Emergency Medical Services that pays between $115,963 and $161,644 and closes July 6, 2026. The Community Health Nurse job in Watson Lake is a two-year term with a salary of $112,278 to $130,288, closing September 18, 2026.
Most territorial jobs carry a hiring preference for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with first priority for Yukon First Nation citizens. The hiring push comes as the government continues efforts to fill gaps in healthcare staffing. Earlier this year, Budget 2026 added $200,000 to healthcare bursaries, bringing the yearly total to $289,000 to help students train in fields like nursing and social work.
