A Special Weather Statement for Hanover, Ontario, warns of snow and freezing rain on Boxing Day (December 26), potentially disrupting travel and holiday plans.
Environment Canada predicts 5 to 15 centimetres of snow in some areas before a transition to freezing rain and ice pellets, which could coat roads, sidewalks and power lines. Visibility may drop and traction will worsen during the morning and afternoon.
An Environment Canada meteorologist (quoted via regional CBC reports) warned, “Significant freezing rain is likely… Be prepared if you’re going anywhere, just give yourself lots of extra time.”
The Town of Hanover reminds residents that its winter parking ban runs from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. from December 1 to March 31 under the town’s snow removal policy. Vehicles left on town roads during the overnight ban may be ticketed by the by-law department.
Hanover Police Service enforces the parking ban and will respond to collisions. Grey County Transportation Services may declare a Significant Weather Event if county roads become unsafe. Motorists should plan extra travel time and check Ontario 511 for current road conditions and closures.
