The Town of Hanover has made its 2026 Public Works Newsletter available for download or pickup at municipal and local locations. The newsletter spells out next year’s garbage and recycling rules, confirms collection days — north of 10th Street (including the north side of the street) on Thursdays and south of 10th Street (including the south side of the street) on Fridays — and highlights requirements for clear garbage bags, bag tags and loose blue-box recycling.
Residents must use clear (non-tinted) outer garbage bags secured with a $2.50 bag tag. Tags are sold at the Town of Hanover Municipal Office, the Hanover Public Library and a number of local retailers (for example: Circle K, Pioneer Gas Bar, Canadian Tire Gas Bar, Giant Tiger, MacEwen Gas Bar, Hanover Esso and Hanover Foodland); see the town’s curbside collection page for the full list and hours.
Garbage collection north of 10th Street, including the north side of the street, falls on Thursdays, while homes on the south side will see pickups on Fridays.
Under Ontario’s shift to producer-run recycling programs, the town reiterates that all recyclables must be placed loose in blue boxes; plastic bags are no longer allowed. The town says this change is part of the provincial Blue Box transition and the local program is now managed by Circular Materials, aiming to reduce contamination and streamline processing.
Residents can view or download the full newsletter from Hanover’s curbside collection page or pick up a copy at the listed municipal and local locations to make sure they follow the 2026 guidelines and avoid missed collections.
