Diamond Jenness Secondary School in Hay River, Northwest Territories, launched a new online tool on February 9, 2026, to help students, staff and parents report bullying. The school added a front‑and‑center “Click here to report bullying” link on its website so members of the school community can quickly flag incidents of harassment or online bullying.

The link opens a digital form that goes directly to the school’s safety team. The form allows people to submit reports anonymously, though SSDEC and NWT Safe Schools guidance cautions that anonymous reports can limit the school’s ability to take formal disciplinary action without corroborating evidence. Submissions are routed to the principal and/or the designated Safe Schools Coordinator, who will review the report and, where appropriate, investigate and notify families involved in a timely fashion.

Principal Lynne Beck has led the school since 2014 and emphasizes restorative justice — focusing on repairing relationships and supporting students to learn from their mistakes. The South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) helped integrate the digital reporting tool to ensure there is a clear record of safety concerns. The change follows local discussions in Hay River about stronger anti‑bullying measures, including council consideration of adding bullying into the town bylaws.

By putting the reporting form online, the school hopes to lower the barrier for people who might be nervous about reporting a problem in person. The tool is part of a broader effort by DJSS and SSDEC to modernize safety protocols, catch problems early and support students before issues escalate.
