Property owners in Foothills County, Alberta, have until January 31, 2026, to receive a 6% discount on their 2026 property taxes. This early-payment incentive is available to property owners within Foothills County — including rural residents around High River and neighbouring towns — who prepay estimated 2026 taxes before the end of the month.

To get the savings, homeowners should calculate their pre-payment as last year’s tax levy minus 6%. Payments may be made in person at the Foothills County Administration Building, 309 Macleod Trail, High River, AB, by mail to Box 5605, High River, AB T1V 1M7 (payments mailed must be postmarked by January 31), or through most Canadian financial institutions by searching for “Foothills” and selecting the Taxes account. Note: Foothills County’s Discounts & Penalties page states that pre-payments cannot be made through the Virtual County Hall portal, so do not rely on VCH for a pre-payment.

While many residents have a High River mailing address, the 6% pre-payment discount applies only to properties within Foothills County’s jurisdiction (not the Town of High River). The incentive is intended to encourage early payment and provide the County with early operating cash flow; property owners should confirm which municipality collects their taxes before prepaying (for example, via the Town of High River website).

Residents who choose to mail cheques to Box 5605, High River, must ensure they are postmarked by January 31 to qualify for the discount. Property owners are encouraged to check their tax records or contact Foothills County or the Town of High River if they are unsure which local government collects their taxes.
