The Alberta government opened nominations on January 30, 2026, for the provincial Minister’s Seniors Service Awards, an annual program that recognizes Albertans who support older adults. While the awards are province-wide, this year’s call includes a focused push for nominations from High River, Alberta.

Nominations are open in three categories: individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. One specific honour, the Alice Modin Award, is for an individual or couple aged 65 or older who has volunteered in their community for 20 or more years and who actively promotes volunteerism and/or has had provincial impact through their volunteer efforts.

Local organizations such as the High River & District Seniors Friendship Centre provide daily programming and support for retirees and are often sources of nominees. Residents who want to recognize a local volunteer or business can submit nominations online through the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards website or by mail/email; nominations are being accepted until April 30, 2026.

The awards highlight neighbours who help seniors live with dignity and independence. After nominations are collected and reviewed, the province expects to hold an official ceremony to celebrate winners in fall 2026.
