Residents in Igloolik, Nunavut, should prepare for strong winds and blowing snow starting the night of February 11, 2026, through the following morning. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, wind gusts could reach 60 kilometres per hour, creating difficult conditions for anyone travelling.

The forecast calls for a small amount of new snow, but the high winds are expected to pick up existing snow from the ground and produce whiteout conditions. That will make it hard to see the horizon and could be dangerous for hunters or residents using snowmobiles on the sea ice. Nunavut Emergency Management and local authorities advise residents to avoid travel and remain within the community limits until winds subside.

Travel and local supplies may also be affected, as low visibility often causes cancellations or delays for Canadian North flights at the local airport (Igloolik Airport, IATA: YGT).  Igloolik is a small island community in Foxe Basin that relies on air links for perishable food and other essential items.

The most intense weather is expected to last through the early morning of February 12, 2026. Residents are encouraged to check for updates with the hamlet office and official Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts, and to avoid any unnecessary travel on the land or sea ice until visibility improves.
