The Municipality of Igloolik, Nunavut, is hosting a training session from March 13 to March 16, 2026, to help local residents prepare for jobs in the mining industry. Known as the Work Ready Program, the initiative provides a basic introduction to mining roles and focuses on building essential skills for the workplace.
Participants will learn how to manage their personal money and prepare for the lifestyle of fly-in, fly-out work, where employees travel to a job site for a specific number of days. The program is designed to help residents feel more comfortable with rotational job schedules and the expectations of working at a remote mine.
This training is being offered by the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation to encourage more community members to join the local workforce. The company is working with the hamlet to provide the training space and share information with the public.
Anyone in the community who wants to join the training can sign up by contacting the local Baffinland Community Liaison Officer. This officer acts as the primary contact for residents who have questions about the program or the application process.
