Nine new affordable houses are coming to Igloolik, Nunavut, with construction starting in 2026 to help residents who need more space and better living conditions. The project is being led by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association and is meant to help solve the long-term housing shortage in the community.
These homes are expected to be finished by 2028, according to the plans for the local area. This project follows a large housing meeting organized by the Nunavut Housing Corporation that took place in June 2025.
During that event, over 300 people met in Iqaluit to talk about a territory-wide plan called Nunavut 3000. They looked at new ways to build homes faster, including using pre-made building sections and training more local people to work on construction projects.
