The Town of Innisfail is looking for a consultant to craft a new five-year economic development strategy, with proposals due by July 26, 2026. The plan will set priorities for 2027 to 2031 and has a budget of up to $50,000 CAD (exclusive of GST).
The project will update the current Power of Place strategy that council adopted in 2022. That roadmap is set to expire, and the town wants a fresh plan that builds on recent wins and new data. The chosen consultant will deliver a five-year strategy, an implementation plan, and a look at long-term opportunities, according to the town’s request for quote.
Innisfail has seen major changes since the last plan was written. In 2025, the Deep Sky Alpha facility opened. It is a $50-million carbon capture operation and the first in North America to pull CO2 from the air and store it underground. The project drew international attention and is expected to pump about $110 million into the local economy over a decade.
The town also finished a 61-lot mixed housing subdivision, with 70 per cent of lots conditionally sold and construction set to begin in 2026. Those projects, along with recent awards for clean energy leadership and business attraction, have put Innisfail on the map. The updated strategy will aim to keep that momentum going.
Mayor Jean Barclay was re-elected in October 2025, and four new councillors joined the seven-member council. The new plan will give the fresh council a clear path for job creation and growth over the next five years.
