Organizers in Kapuskasing, Ontario, have announced the dates for the 2026 Big Winter Festiglace carnival: March 13–22, 2026, on the Kapuskasing Tourism & Events website. The 10-day event is timed to run during Ontario March Break and will focus on family-friendly programming, though the full 2026 schedule is still in development.
The carnival will span venues across town, including Riverside Park, the Kapuskasing Golf Club, Model City Mall and the Civic Centre Auditorium. The 2025 lineup included sled-dog tours, a drone show, a vintage snowmobile showcase and a range of family activities.
By timing the festival to coincide with March Break (March 16–20, 2026, per the Ontario Ministry of Education school-year calendar), organizers hope to draw regional visitors and local staycationers. Funding comes from the Town of Kapuskasing and corporate sponsors, and the event relies heavily on volunteers.
Kapuskasing Tourism & Events, led by Tourism & Special Events Coordinator Kelly Kraby, works with local groups such as Abitibi Sled Dogs, Kap Nordic Ski Club and North Star Entertainment Inc. to bring both traditional and high-tech winter attractions to life. Town Council views Festiglace as a key part of its strategy to boost tourism and revitalize the downtown during winter.
The festival website states the 2026 schedule is “in development”; details on headliners, volunteer roles and projected economic impact have not yet been published. Interested residents can contact the Kapuskasing Welcome Centre for updates.
