Residents in Kapuskasing, Ontario, can show off their vocal talents this winter as the local singing competition, Kapuskasing Idol, returns to a popular town bar. The event will be held at The Oasis (Girard Oasis Hotel Ltd.) to help neighbors beat the winter blues with live music and community fun.

Qualifying rounds are scheduled for January 9, January 16 and January 23, 2026, with each session running from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., according to an announcement from Kapuskasing Tourism and Events. Entry to the contest costs $5, and each qualifying night four singers will be chosen to advance to the grand finale (selection method to be confirmed by the venue).

Kapuskasing Tourism and Events promoted the competition as a way to keep the town’s social energy high during the coldest months of the year.

The Oasis is well known for supporting the local music scene and frequently features singers and musicians on Friday nights. In a Sept. 29, 2025 column for The Daily Press, Lynne Martin Veilleux described the bar as “a welcoming space” and central to the town’s grassroots music scene.

The singing contest is part of a broader effort by the Town of Kapuskasing and Kapuskasing Tourism and Events to provide residents with regular local entertainment. By offering a platform for local talent, organizers aim to bring the community together for several high-energy nights this winter.
