The Town of Kearney, Ontario, has confirmed that the Kearney Dog Sled Races will return on February 7 and February 8, 2026. The annual event is expected to attract around 100–120 mushers (dog sled teams) and thousands of spectators to the area for a weekend of competition and local shopping.

Local businesses and artisans will see a boost from a vendors market held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 276 during the race weekend. According to Explore Almaguin, the event serves as a major regional hub, giving local sellers a chance to offer food and handmade items during the winter event.

The races include several categories for professional and amateur dog sledders, as well as the popular I-Kid-Arod short dash for children. Committee chair Kaitlynn Tidwell told BayToday (Jan. 31, 2024) that the event relies on a close-knit community and encourages visitors to use local services like the general store while in town.

First started in 1994, the races have grown into one of the largest dog sledding events in Ontario. Organizers are already preparing for the 2026 festivities, as previous years have seen race entries reach their caps weeks before the event begins.
