Music fans in Kingston, Ontario are seeing a return to intimate live performances with the launch of the Sit Down Series, a new project from local promoter Dave Whiteway.
The series, organized through B4W Promotions, brings focus to smaller, seated concert experiences. This shift comes after the Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area ended the long-running Limestone City Blues Festival in 2023. That former festival had operated for 26 years, utilizing large outdoor stages at Springer Market Square and Confederation Park alongside various club performances.
As part of this new series, Juno Award-winning blues musician Garrett Mason is set to perform at Monte’s on April 14, 2026. Mason, a guitarist from Truro, Nova Scotia, is the son of the late Canadian blues legend Dutch Mason. The performance at the jazz bar, located in the historic Prince George Hotel, offers residents a close-up setting to enjoy live music.
While the Sit Down Series highlights blues talent, other cultural events are also filling local venues this spring. On May 2, 2026, the Le Sésame Theatre will host comedian François Massicotte, who is bringing his one-man show, 8.0!, to the stage. This event is presented by the Centre culturel Frontenac.
Those looking for ongoing blues music in the community can also turn to the Kingston Blues Society. Since its formation in 2006, the non-profit organization has continued to host regular blues shows and remains dedicated to supporting local and touring artists in the area.
