The City of Kingston, Ontario, is reminding residents that interim property taxes for 2026 are due by the end of the day on Friday, February 27, 2026. These payments are used to fund essential community services and local agencies before the final tax rates for the year are established.
The interim bill is calculated using 50 per cent of what a property owner paid in taxes during 2025. Although Kingston City Council approved a 3.75 per cent tax increase for the 2026 budget, that new rate will not be fully applied until the final tax bills are issued this coming June.
Residents who miss the Friday deadline will be charged a late fee. According to MyCity Kingston, a penalty of 1.25 per cent is added to the unpaid tax amount starting on the very first day a payment is late.
Payments can be made online through the MyTax Portal, at most banks, or by mail. Property owners can also set up pre-authorized payment plans to handle their bills automatically.
The city reminds residents that they are still responsible for paying on time even if they did not receive a bill in the mail. Information about how property values are determined can be found through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
