The City of Kingston is inviting residents to share their feedback on proposed changes to local bus services through a series of public meetings and an online survey. This consultation is part of an ongoing project to update transit standards and better serve a growing number of passengers, with public input being accepted until May 3, 2026.
The city has partnered with Dillon Consulting Limited to review the current network and develop new service guidelines. These proposed changes introduce six route categories, including options for frequent, main, local, express, on-demand, and night service. Each category will have its own standards for service frequency and daily operating hours.
The initiative comes as transit ridership in the city continues to rise. During previous feedback rounds in 2025, residents highlighted service frequency and reliability as major priorities. Many respondents also expressed interest in a potential on-demand transit pilot to help connect rural areas to key destinations like downtown, Kingston General Hospital, and local educational institutions.
Residents can review the details and participate in the survey through the Get Involved Kingston online portal. In addition to the survey, the city is hosting public engagement events for those who wish to discuss the plans in person or online:
* April 15 at Memorial Hall – 5.30pm to 8.30pm
* April 23 via a virtual session on Zoom (registration required) – 7pm to 8.30 pm
* April 29 at the Rideau Heights Community Centre – 6pm to 8.30pm
All feedback collected during this phase will help finalize the network report and service guidelines, which are expected to be completed in the spring of 2026.
