Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has launched a campaign to be named Kraft Hockeyville 2026 and compete for the $250,000 grand prize for arena upgrades. The winning community also receives the opportunity to host an NHL pre‑season game.

The bid centers on the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. The facility is already receiving federal funding through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program — Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada is investing $2,394,392 (with a municipal contribution) to upgrade boilers, ventilation and compressor systems and to make accessibility improvements. The Hockeyville prize would be aimed at more visible, user-facing upgrades such as new scoreboards, dressing-room renovations and improved spectator seating.

Residents are being asked to visit the official Kraft Hockeyville website to submit nomination stories, photos and rallying cries that showcase Kirkland Lake’s hockey culture. For 2026, submissions are scored (a nomination story is worth 10 points, a photo 3 points and a rallying cry 1 point); the nomination/rally phase runs through March 1, 2026.

Town officials and the Parks & Recreation Department say the bid would benefit groups such as the Junior A Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (NOJHL) and minor-hockey families. The nomination will highlight the community’s deep hockey heritage — Kirkland Lake has produced more than 30 NHL players.

After nominations close, the competition moves through judging and voting rounds. The 13 provincial and territorial winners will be announced on March 14, 2026, and the Kraft Hockeyville champion will be revealed on April 4, 2026.
