The Burman University women’s futsal team won a regional championship title on January 30, 2026, in Lacombe, Alberta. The victory is a major milestone for the student‑athletes and the local community.

Futsal is a fast‑paced version of indoor soccer played on a hard court. The team, known as the Bobcats, secured the win at Acronaires Gym at Burman University during the Prairie Athletic Conference (PAC) championship.

This championship marks the first time the women’s program has finished in first place since 2022. The university participates in the PAC in part because the conference allows scheduling flexibility that accommodates Burman’s Seventh‑day Adventist observance of the Sabbath (Friday sundown to Saturday sundown).

School officials, including Athletic Director Ron Schafer, said the win highlights the growth of the school’s sports programs. Local players from Lacombe — including Keani Bacalso and Ella Schafer — were among the contributors who helped the team advance through the tournament bracket to reach the final match.

Residents can find more details about the team’s season and other campus updates through the Burman University news archive. The school continues to be a central part of regional sports and student life in the area.
