Residents in Lacombe, Alberta, should prepare for a slippery drive on Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026, as overnight freezing rain and patchy fog are expected to move into the area. Weather experts are forecasting a mix of flurries and freezing rain that could create thin, nearly invisible layers of ice on local streets and highways.

The latest update from Environment and Climate Change Canada shows a 30 per cent chance of flurries between midnight and early Tuesday morning that may transition to freezing rain as temperatures remain just below the freezing mark. These conditions, combined with light southwest winds and morning fog patches, are expected to reduce visibility and make driving more hazardous.

Road maintenance crews from the City of Lacombe and Lacombe County are on standby to treat priority routes and busy intersections with salt and sand. Because the ice is expected to form just before the morning rush, officials are asking residents to drive slowly and leave extra time for their commute.

Families with students should watch for updates regarding school bus service. Wolf Creek Public Schools and St. Thomas Aquinas (STAR) Catholic Schools will be monitoring road conditions early in the morning. A decision on whether buses will run is typically made by 6:30 a.m., based on local road and weather conditions (for example, freezing rain or poor visibility).

Visibility is expected to be lowest along Highway 2 and Highway 2A, where fog patches can appear suddenly. Drivers are encouraged to check live road alerts and safe-travel guidance via 511 Alberta before heading out on Tuesday morning.
