On January 30, 2026, the City of Lacombe, Alberta, will host a special “Winter Olympics Day” where local families can celebrate the upcoming Winter Olympics through games and learning activities. The day is designed to include everyone, especially local youth of all abilities who want to experience the spirit of the international games.

The event is a collaboration between the Mary C. Moore Public Library and Special Olympics Lacombe (the local chapter of Special Olympics Alberta). It will take place at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, where organizers have set up different stations for participants to explore.

Visitors can take part in physical challenges and hands-on projects that focus on science, technology, engineering and math. These activities may include building miniature bobsled tracks and exploring timing-system electronics used in competitive sports as part of the library’s integrated STEM stations.

The celebration falls one week before the opening of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Local news coverage has previously noted the region’s leadership in inclusive and Unified Sports programs that bring students with and without disabilities together.

According to Lacombe Regional Tourism, programs like this help highlight the city as a welcoming place for residents and visitors. Those who want to attend should register through the library’s online booking system; attendees should contact the Mary C. Moore Public Library to confirm availability at (403) 782-3433.
