The Lethbridge Food Bank is holding a free mobile food distribution event in Lethbridge, Alberta, on March 27, 2026, to help local families access healthy groceries. Residents who wish to participate are asked to bring their own bags and provide their postal code to receive food support at the event.
This service is designed to be accessible to everyone in the community, including working families, and is open to residents regardless of their income. According to Food Banks Alberta, about 21.7 per cent of people who used food banks in the province recently reported that employment was their main source of income. Children also make up approximately 35 per cent of all people served by these programs across the province.
The event comes as Canada’s Food Price Report 2026 predicts grocery costs will increase by 4 to 6 per cent this year. This could push the average grocery bill for a family of four to over $17,500 annually. Data from Food Banks Canada shows that visits to food banks in Alberta have increased by over 134 per cent since 2019.
Currently, Alberta has the highest rate of food insecurity in the country, with nearly 1.5 million people living in households that struggle to afford enough food. The Lethbridge Food Bank Society has been operating since 1982 and now helps more than 1,500 community members every month from its location at 1016 2nd Avenue South.
