Lethbridge residents with half-empty paint cans, old electronics, and other tricky household items can drop them off for free at a special collection event on June 6, 2026. The City of Lethbridge is running its Beyond-the-Bin Recycling Roundup from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the northwest parking lot of Park Placze Mall.
The event takes items that cannot go into regular curbside bins, including electronics, paint, solvents and stains, used oil, tires, batteries, and anything with a hazard symbol like corrosive or flammable products. It is only for residential waste, so commercial loads are not accepted, and the city cannot take containers larger than 20 litres, needles, or large appliances.
Lisa Sutherland, Waste Diversion Co-ordinator with the City of Lethbridge, says past roundups have kept about 130 tons of hazardous waste and electronics out of the landfill across six events. The last one in October 2025 saw 1,400 vehicles come through with little waiting.
The program started in the summer of 2022 to give people a central place to drop off problem materials, rather than having to drive to the Waste and Recycling Centre north of the city. While the landfill site accepts these items year-round at no cost for residents, the mall location makes it more convenient for many households.
Anyone unsure about what they can bring can call Lethbridge 311. The event is free and open to all city residents.
