Residents who use the multi-use trail along 43 Street South and South Parkside Drive South in Lethbridge should plan for detours over the next six weeks. The City of Lethbridge is closing the path starting April 15, 2026, to conduct final construction work on the project known as Pathway 17.
The closure is expected to remain in place until May 31, 2026, depending on weather conditions. This final stage of the project involves grading, landscaping, and making necessary connections to complete the loop, which links to existing trails, including the green strip path on Lakeview Drive South.
Pathway 17, which first opened to the public in December 2025, runs along the west side of 43 Street South from South Parkside Drive South to 24 Avenue South. The completed project is part of the city’s ongoing effort to close gaps in its network of more than 280 kilometres of pathways.
In addition to the trail work, the project features two new pedestrian crosswalks at 43 Street South and 20 Avenue South, as well as 43 Street South and Forestry Avenue South. Each of these crossings includes a new deceleration lane designed to assist southbound drivers who are turning west.
For residents living along South Parkside Drive, the city previously replaced existing sidewalk concrete with a two to three-metre wide asphalt trail. The city will continue to be responsible for all snow removal on this section of the path.
