The Lethbridge Police Service updated its website in February 2026 to help residents in Lethbridge, Alberta, better understand how to report crimes. These changes provide a clear list of what can be handled through an online form and what requires a phone call or an in-person visit.

The online tool allows residents to report thefts or property damage worth up to $10,000, a threshold that was increased from previous limits to accommodate more non-emergent reports. However, specific items like firearms, license plates, and Canadian passports cannot be reported online and require direct contact with the police or appropriate federal agencies.

The updated guidelines state that any crime involving personal violence, such as an assault or a robbery, must be reported through emergency or non-emergency lines. Additionally, if there is video evidence from a security camera or if a home or business was broken into, residents must call the police so officers can properly collect and protect the evidence before it is lost or overwritten.

For traffic issues, the online system is only for those who are satisfied with the driver receiving a warning letter. If a person wants to act as a witness for court charges, they are required to visit the police station in person to provide a formal written statement.

These updates are meant to help citizens get the documentation they need for insurance claims more quickly while ensuring serious crimes get the right response. For emergencies, people should still call 911, while non-urgent matters can be reported by calling 403-328-4444.
