The Lethbridge Police Service has released its list of photo radar locations for April 2026, reminding drivers to be mindful of their speed in designated school, playground, and construction zones. Automated traffic enforcement is active in designated zones across the city to encourage safe driving habits, with a specific focus on areas where children play.
In accordance with provincial rules that took effect on April 1, 2025, photo radar is now restricted to school, playground, and construction zones, and is no longer permitted on provincial highways. In January 2025, Lethbridge Police Service added 42 new playground zone monitoring sites while removing 27 non-compliant sites that were previously on provincial highways. In Lethbridge, all playground zones are in effect daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. These areas include former school zones, which were converted to playground zones in September 2023 to standardize enforcement times across the community.
The local police service operates three photo radar vehicles and two intersection safety cameras to monitor these zones. While the revenue generated from automated traffic enforcement tickets is collected by the province and held by the City of Lethbridge, the funds are used to pay for the program and support various local traffic safety initiatives. It is important for vehicle owners to note that tickets issued through these devices do not carry demerit points and do not impact insurance premiums or driving records.
